1. La Banchina

La Banchina sums up a lot of what makes people fall in love with Copenhagen. It’s located right next to the harbour, so after enjoying their great coffee and baked goods, you can go for a dip afterwards.

It’s also a restaurant and wine bar with an on-site sauna, and everything on the menu is natural, organic, biodynamic, and locally sourced.

Especially in the summer months, both locals and tourists come here to enjoy the great view and delicious food, creating one of the coziest and most vibrant atmospheres in the city.

2. Orsa Coffee

Orsa has quickly become one of Copenhagen’s most popular cafés since opening in 2023.

Aside from their great coffee, the music and vibes in Orsa set it apart from most places in the city. So, it’s no surprise at all that both locals and tourists love coming here.

A second location that opened recently on Landemærket brings the same energy to a new neighborhood. Both are worth visiting.

3. The Roe Bar (Louise Roe Gallery)

The Roe Bar, the café inside the Louise Roe design gallery, manages to feel both stylish and relaxed at once.

The breakfast and lunch menu is made in-house from organic ingredients and changes regularly. Bread and pastries come from Juno the Bakery (one of the best bakeries in Denmark).

You’re surrounded by the brand’s design pieces while you eat, which is perfect if you want to browse the gallery afterwards.

4. Bingcha

Bingcha is Denmark’s first Asian dessert café located in Frederiksberg.

The specialty is bingsu, the Korean shaved ice dessert, made fresh in-house in several variations. It’s absolutely amazing and hard to pick a favorite.

So we recommend coming back to it and working your way through the menu. The drinks are delicious, too.

5. Format

Format is the café inside Designmuseum Denmark, and like a few other museum cafés on this list, it more than earns its place here independently of the museum around it. No ticket needed.

You sit in iconic designer chairs and look out over the museum garden, which in summer is one of the loveliest outdoor spots in the city.

The food on the menu is carefully selected and follows the seasons, tasting delicious throughout.

6. Sonny

Sonny is one of the best all-round cafés in Copenhagen, with exceptional La Cabra coffee, a warm atmosphere, and simple, well-made food all day.

Whether you’re in the mood for some afternoon hygge or want to have some of the best brunch in Copenhagen, Sonny is a great choice.

Sonny has two locations in the city, and while both are great, the menus differ slightly.

7. Fred’s

If you’re in the mood for matcha, Fred’s is a great option. But be prepared, Fred’s is somewhat of an unusual place, which is definitely part of its charm.

You can get your hair and your nails done and have some of the best matcha ever. We love it.

Aside from matcha, the menu also includes great coffee, the classic BMO, a breakfast plate and many other highlights.

8. Lille Fugl

Lille Fugl sits on the ground floor of the Gammel Strand art space, right on the canal in Indre By, and it was recently crowned Café of the Year by Politiken.

It’s the little sister to the beloved Nordvest bakery Flere Fugle, and all the pastries and bread come directly from there.

Make sure to try the cardamom bun. Aside from their amazing coffee, the homemade lemonade is worth ordering, too.

9. La Glace

La Glace is the oldest patisserie in Denmark. It has been open since 1870. Stepping inside almost feels like walking into a different century.

The rooms have their original mahogany fittings, brass and glass, and the cakes are made from recipes passed down through six generations.

Coffee and tea come in a pot with free refills, which is a tradition that barely exists anywhere else in Copenhagen anymore.

But be aware that La Glace often has a queue during peak hours.

10. A.C. Perch’s Thehandel

A.C. Perch’s has been selling tea from the same address in Copenhagen since 1835, making it one of the city’s oldest shops.

The ground-floor shop is lined floor to ceiling with over 150 varieties of tea, still weighed on the original brass scales.

We recommend going for the afternoon tea for the full experience with finger sandwiches, scones with jam and lemon curd, and petit fours. But the brunch is great, too.

11. Beau Marché

Beau Marché is tucked through a gateway off Ny Østergade into a hidden courtyard. You have to know it’s there to find it, which is part of the appeal.

Once you’re in, it feels completely Parisian: rustic tables, wine bottles everywhere, vintage décor and a short menu of French classics.

Aside from their amazing French bites, the banana bread is an absolute must, too.

12. House of Josty

The historic Josty building right by Frederiksberg Gardens has a new café, and it’s a must-visit. Every dish is made with fresh produce, which you can taste right away.

They have a beautiful, open kitchen inside and a spacious terrace, which is perfect for a relaxing breakfast or lunch.

Due to its location, it’s the perfect spot for a stroll through Frederiksberg Gardens afterwards.

13. Sneezing Fruits

Sneezing Fruits is a Copenhagen hidden gem in the most literal sense. Tucked away in a courtyard in Islands Brygge, this specialty coffee shop is one of our favorite finds in Copenhagen.

While sipping your coffee, you can even catch a sneak peek into the woodworking shops next door.

Definitely less known than some other spots on this list (like La Banchina), but that makes it even more worthy of a visit, in our opinion.

14. Frisbee

Frisbee is the newest café on this list and opened in the summer of 2026. It comes from the same team behind Darcy’s Kaffe.

The new spot brings together hip interiors, great food and coffee, and our personal highlight: the cozy vinyl room in the back.

Already, Frisbee is an amazing new addition to the coffee scene in Copenhagen.

15. La Trinacria

La Trinacria is a Sicilian café located in Indre By. You wouldn’t expect it at first, but the small café opens up to the prettiest, calmest courtyard.

But we don’t just love the location, the food is amazing too, especially the croissant with pistachio cream.

The best part: La Trinacria is also affordable (especially for Copenhagen prices). You get a lunch combo with a panino and a San Pellegrino drink for 99 kr. A special shoutout also to the lovely service.

16. Sommer Canteen

Sommer Canteen is technically outside Copenhagen, but it’s too good to leave off this list. A short trip up to Taarbæk, right on the water, and well worth the journey.

The cardamom bun and sourdough bread alone justify the trip, but the location does a lot of the work too. Ocean-inspired artwork on the walls, the sea right outside, and the option to go for a dip afterwards.

Go by train to Klampenborg and walk the last stretch along the coast.
